We are working with a collaboration of legal aid organizations from across the United States to develop and provide support for Drupal for Legal Aid Websites (DLAW), a free and open source website management software built specifically for legal aid organiations.
The software is based on the popular open source Drupal web content management system. DLAW includes many of the features required by legal aid organizations, including a self-updating National Subject Matter Index (NSMI) classification and tagging system. Urban Insight releases updated versions of the software approximately monthly.
DLAW is developed and maintained by Urban Insight in collaboration with Legal Services National Technology Assistant Project (LSNTAP), Idaho Legal Aid Services (ILAS) and legal aid organizations from 11 states. Development of the OST Base was funded through a Legal Service Corporation (LSC) Technology Initiative Grant.
More information about Drupal for Legal Aid websites is available on a special website, www.legalaidtech.org, where legal aid organizations can also download the latest version of the software for free.
You can also view a presentation about DLAW, delivered by Urban Insight's Chief Technology Officer, Abhijeet Chavan, at the Legal Services Corp Technology Initiative Grants 2010 conference in Austin, TX.
