Over the last twenty years, transportation demand in McHenry County, Illinois has exploded. With the population increasing over 68% since 1990, more and more people are using the County’s roads, trains, buses, and sidewalks. However, McHenry County’s transportation infrastructure has not been able to keep up with the increased demand.
McHenry County identified the need to use innovative public participation technologies to enable citizens and stakeholders to tell the County’s planners, engineers, and leaders what they think about the County’s future transportation needs and figure out how to best address them.
Urban Insight collaborated with the County and a consultant team led by Sam Schwartz Engineering to develop and implement a comprehensive Internet-based public participation campaign using the popular open source web content management system, Drupal.
The McHenry County 2040 Transportation Plan website enables residents to understand the goals of the planning effort, identify transportation issue and make recommendations using a point and click map, upload photos of transportation problems, follow the project blog, RSVP for workshops and public events, subscribe to newsletters, participate in surveys, and engage with the project using a variety of social media networks, such as Twitter and Facebook.
Urban Insight is the largest Drupal consulting firm in Los Angeles.
