Periodical Publishing System
Urban Insight's Periodical Publishing System (PPS) is designed specifically
for periodicals such as small-scale newspapers, magazines, or newsletters
that want to publish and sell articles online, either exclusively or
as an extension of their print publication. The system also provides
a web-based subscriber management system that integrates print and online
subscribers.
Scenario:
You publish a print newsletter or magazine with several hundred (or
thousand) subscribers, and you have a modest website where you provide
information on subscribing, and perhaps one or two articles from
your most recent issue. Ideally, a visitor to your website would
be able to perform a full-text search of all articles from your past
issues, and then be able to buy articles, or subscribe to your online
and/or print editions. Perhaps you are paying a consultant to update
your website when you publish each new issue. Your past research
has shown that a publishing and e-commerce system like this is far
too expensive to justify.
Solution:
Urban Insight's open source-based Periodical Publishing System (PPS)
is an affordable solution that enables you to use a friendly web
interface to upload your articles and photos, then decide which articles
you'd like to make available for free, and which articles will require
a fee.
Visitors to your website can sign up to purchase an article with
a credit card, or subscribe to an online or print version of the newsletter.
All past issues are full-text searchable, so your visits can easily
search by keyword or phrase.
You can also use PPS to manage your print
subscriber list, including subscription expirations and payments,
and cross-market to your online subscribers by sending print marketing
materials.
PPS features include:
- An entirely web-based interface to perform all publishing
and subscriber management tasks.
- A subscriber system that integrates
online and print subscribers (or you can keep them separate);
- Ability
for users to renew their subscription on the website using their
existing account.
- Multiple sections (state news, local news, editorial, weather,
sports, etc.).
- Multiple levels of administrative control for editors,
assistant editors, staff writers
- Statistics about subscribers.
- Capability to perform full-text searches
of all articles within the system.
- A photo repository to assign photos
to articles.
- Ability to control the order in which articles are displayed
.
- Easy integration with a merchant account for online transactions.
- Ability
to display banner advertisements.
