Drupal: Manage your website from a web browser
Drupal is a a dynamic web site platform which allows an individual
or community of users to publish, manage and organize a variety
of content using a web browser
About Drupal
Drupal is the premier open-source content management system,
and is administered entirely via a web-based interface. Drupal
has a core layer which supports over 50 additional (free) modules
that provide a wide assortment of features, such as e-commerce,
workflow management, discussion forums, banner advertising, photo
gallery, mailing list management, and taxonomy/classification.
Drupal is most-often used by organizations with 100+ pages and
who need to distribute management of the website.
Drupal integrates many popular features of content management
systems, weblogs, collaborative tools and discussion-based community
software into one easy-to-use package. By enabling and configuring
individual modules, an administrator can design a unique site
-- one which can be used for a combination of knowledge management,
web publishing and community interaction purposes.
Features include:
- Personalization: A robust personalization environment is
at the core of Drupal. Both the content and the presentation
can be individualized based on user-defined preferences
- Role based permission system: Drupal administrators don't
have to tediously setup permissions for each user. Instead,
they assign permissions to roles and then group like users
into a role group
- Content syndication: Drupal exports your site's content
in RDF/RSS format
- Searching: All content in Drupal is fully indexed and searchable
at all times
- Discussion forums: Full discussion forum features are built
into Drupal to create lively, dynamic community sites
- Multi-language: Drupal is designed to meet the requirements
of an international audience and provides a full framework
to create a multi-lingual website
In addition, the Drupal community (including Urban Insight),
has many modules which provide additional functionality.
A small selection of the most popular and useful modules include:
- E-Commerce: Enables the sale of goods or services,
including inventory management and invoice generation
- Opt-In: Provides a mechanism for users to opt-in
for multiple site features
- Event registration: Enables visitors to sign up
for events, and provides event management features
- Workflow management: Enables the creation and assignment
of workflows for any type of content type
- Survey management: Enables the creation of surveys
to be completed by site visitors, with data exported to Excel
- Banner: Enables the display and tracking of advertising
banners
- Customer Relationship Management (CRM): Enables
you to track and evaluate who is subscribing to your newsletters,
visiting the website and purchasing goods and services
