43nd Annual Conference of the
Urban and Regional Information Systems Association
URISA 2005, October 10th, 2005
Kansas City, MO
Whether it is for facilitating government-to-citizen, government-to-government, or government-to-business interaction or for improving internal efficiency and effectiveness, web content syndication and aggregation can offer several benefits for e-government initiatives.
Content syndication and aggregation is based on a simple XML-based protocol that enables a website to publish information in a structured format making it easy for other websites or users to aggregate or repackage the information. This presentation describes how web content syndication works and provides an introduction to content syndication formats such as Atom and RSS are. An overview of desktop and web-based aggregators, and content syndication tools is presented along with real-world examples of how content syndication is being used in e-government. Strategies and best practices for deploying content syndication for e-government initiatives are discussed.
