Create a compelling and world-class website design, on a modern technology platform, to heighten awareness of the Museum to move beyond the museum’s walls
The Japanese American National Museum (JANM) is the largest museum in the United States dedicated to sharing the experience of Americans of Japanese ancestry.
The previous JANM website was not optimized for mobile devices, and was challenging to update with new exhibitions and initiatives. As a result, staff were developing separate websites for new exhibitions and projects, many of which did not adopt web development best practices. These sites were hard for visitors to find and challenging for staff to maintain. Online collections records had been manually imported and were no longer synchronized with the museum’s internal collections management system.
Urban Insight led a comprehensive website redesign, executed a new brand identity, developed a modern website platform, and architected a new online collections integration. Urban Insight engaged the community, JANM staff, and stakeholders in a highly successful design process that resulted in a beautiful and consistent new website design.
