Redevelop and migrate a high-performance and SEO-optimized Nonprofit Legal website from ColdFusion to Drupal.

THE
CHALLENGE

Pro Bono Net enlisted Urban Insight to redevelop the Law Help NY website, LawHelpNY.org, an online tool that helps low-income New Yorkers solve their legal problems. New York's only comprehensive source of legal referral information, LawHelpNY.org includes more than 600 free legal service projects and organizations and 3,500 self-help resources. Still, a nearly 20-year-old design and technology infrastructure was impacting usability, accessibility, and performance and raising concerns around security. To optimize the website, the existing ColdFusion CMS needed to be upgraded to Drupal 9.

THE
SOLUTION

Pro Bono Net and Urban Insight created a modern version of LawHelpNY.org optimized for users on mobile devices. We migrated thousands of pieces of content while adopting the latest Legal Issues Taxonomy (LIST) and ensuring that the new site is accessible to visitors with disabilities.  We pioneered a new approach to geolocation to personalize resources while still allowing a visitor’s location to remain confidential. A new best-in-class analytics and reporting system provides increased visibility into how visitors interact with the system.

In addition to visible improvements, our technical team re-platformed the site onto the Drupal web content management system for long-term sustainability. We created a modular, replicable technology platform to enable Pro Bono Net to roll out additional legal portals in other jurisdictions.
